Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Hayashi by Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the United Nations

On April 13, commencing at 2:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the United Nations. The overview of the courtesy is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Hayashi referred to today’s launch of a suspected ICBM-class ballistic missile by North Korea, and stated that the Security Council is in severe confrontations, but many countries still have high expectations for its role. He further stated that the UN is the core of multilateralism, which is the very basis for the international order based on the rule of law. He looks forward to further contributions from the UN Secretariat.
  2. In response, Under-Secretary-General DiCarlo stated that Japan's contributions to the UN have been extremely important and much appreciated. She also expressed her expectations for Japan’s role as the chair of the G7 and hopes to continue to further deepen cooperation with Japan.
  3. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening the functions of the UN, including Security Council reform, and the regional and international issues, including North Korea and Ukraine.
