Telephone Meeting between Vice Minister Mori and Deputy Secretary Sherman

On March 16, commencing at 9:00 am, for about 45 minutes, Mr. MORI Takeo, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with the Honorable Wendy R. Sherman, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The two sides strongly condemned the ICBM-class ballistic missile launch by North Korea on March 16, and they once again shared the view that ballistic missile launches by North Korea, which are unprecedented both in their frequency and their manner, constitute a grave and imminent threat to the regional security and pose a clear and serious challenge to the international community.
- Deputy Secretary Sherman welcomed the Government of the Republic of Korea’s announcement regarding the issue of former Civilian Workers from the Korean Penincula (CWKs) and President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol’s visit to Japan from today, and the two sides once again concurred on the importance of strengthening the coordination between Japan and the ROK as well as among Japan, the U.S., and the ROK.
- The two sides discussed Japan-U.S relations, China, the situation in Ukraine, and the TPP, and concurred on continuing to work closely together.
