Japan-UK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On March 13, commencing at 4:00 p.m. for about 10 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Rt Hon James CLEVERLY MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom. The overview is as follows.
- The two ministers affirmed that they would steadily promote cooperation towards peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, in light of the further deepening of the security cooperation between Japan and the UK. Minister Hayashi stated that Japan welcomes the UK’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific region, and that Japan would reinforce its collaboration with the like-minded countries including the UK to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
- The two ministers shared their views on the strategic significance of the CPTPP, and concurred on the importance of the early conclusion of the accession negotiations for the UK.
- The two ministers affirmed to continue their cooperation in the lead up to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Karuizawa in April.
