Courtesy call on Foreign Minister HAYASHI by the Japanese American Leadership Delegation

On March 8, commencing at 10:15 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Japanese American Leadership Delegation (JALD) and Ms. Suzanne Basalla, President & CEO, US-Japan Council. The delegation comprised of 10 Japanese Americans leaders from various States in the United States and the U.S.-Japan Council President, who are invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Minister Hayashi welcomed the visit of the delegation to Japan, which is the 20th in total and the first in four years since March 2019. He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the US-Japan Council and Japanese American community in strengthening Japan-U.S. relations. With regard to contributions to deepening Japan-U.S. relations, Minister Hayashi also mentioned the works of the late Senator Daniel Inouye and the late Mrs. Irene Hirano Inouye, former President & CEO of the US-Japan Council,
  2. The delegation expressed their deep appreciation for the invitation to Japan, stating their intention to work in their various capacities to further enhance Japan-U.S. relations. The delegation members also touched on their visit to Shizuoka Prefecture, sharing their impressions.
  3. The meeting also included a general exchange of views on such matters as the common challenges for Japan and the Japanese American community and the situation in East Asia.
