Meeting Between Minister Hayashi and the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada

- On December 8, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada. The meeting took place for approximately 35 minutes, commencing at 9:10 a.m. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi welcomed the announcement of Canada’s first Indo-Pacific Strategy this November. He mentioned that the Strategy is in line with Japan-Canada Action Plan for contributing to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), which was announced by the two countries last October. The ministers concurred to take advantage of this momentum and ensure further development of Japan-Canada cooperation.
- The two ministers had candid discussions on economic security issues as well as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the WTO. They concurred to continue to work closely together on these matters.
- The two ministers also concurred to continue to work closely together in preparation for the G7 Trade Ministerial Meeting in 2023.
