Meeting Between Minister Hayashi and the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada

  1. On December 8, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada. The meeting took place for approximately 35 minutes, commencing at 9:10 a.m. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
  2. At the outset, Minister Hayashi welcomed the announcement of Canada’s first Indo-Pacific Strategy this November. He mentioned that the Strategy is in line with Japan-Canada Action Plan for contributing to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), which was announced by the two countries last October. The ministers concurred to take advantage of this momentum and ensure further development of Japan-Canada cooperation.
  3. The two ministers had candid discussions on economic security issues as well as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the WTO. They concurred to continue to work closely together on these matters.
  4. The two ministers also concurred to continue to work closely together in preparation for the G7 Trade Ministerial Meeting in 2023.
