Telephone Talk between Foreign Minister HAYASHI and the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Raimondo

On Tuesday, September 6, commencing at 8:30 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The two ministers expressed congratulations on the success of the Economic “2+2” in July and exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), which is also important in the context of following up the “2+2,” in light of the IPEF ministerial meeting to be held in Los Angeles on September 8 and 9.
- Minister Hayashi valued the efforts made by the U.S. to date regarding the IPEF and conveyed Japan’s commitment to contributing to the success of the IPEF, given its strategic importance. In response, Secretary Raimondo expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for the IPEF and her desire for continued collaboration.
- The two ministers concurred to continue to work closely together to materialize the IPEF in order to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region.
