Vice Minister Mori’s Visit to Brussels (Meetings with NATO and EU counterparts)

On July 7th and 8th, Mr. MORI Takeo, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, held the meetings with NATO and EU counterparts in Brussels.

  1. On July 7th, Vice-Minister MORI exchanged views with Ambassador Bettina Cadenbach, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, on Japan-NATO relations, the Ukraine-Russia situation as well as regional issues in the Indo Pacific. Considering the Prime Minister Kishida’s historical participation in the NATO Summit for the first time and the meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg held at the Summit, Vice-Minister MORI and Ambassador Cadenbach confirmed that they will strengthen collaboration between Japan and NATO.
  2. In addition, Vice-Minister MORI exchanged views with Mr. David Cattler, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security, on Japan-NATO relations, the Ukraine-Russia situation as well as regional issues in the Indo Pacific.
  3. On July 8th, Vice-Minister MORI exchanged views with Mr. Stefano Sannino, Secretary General for Political Affairs, European External Action Service, and Mr. Björn Seibert, Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Commission, on Japan-EU relations, the Ukraine-Russia situation, regional issues including China and North Korea as well as global issues. They confirmed that they will strengthen collaboration between Japan and the EU.
