Vice-Ministerial Meeting of Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic “2+2”)

On May 6th from 10am (local time, 11pm May 7th Japan time), a Vice-Ministerial meeting of Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee was held in Washington D.C.

Mr. SUZUKI Hiroshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. HIROSE Naoshi, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at Ministry of Economy, Trade and Indutsry, respresented the Japanese side. Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, and Ms. Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, represented the U.S. side.

In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on strategic environments around the two countries and shared a recognition on the role that the Economic “2+2” should play.

Both sides exchanged views on ensuring economic security, including supply chain resilience, and measures to enhance the rules-based economic order in the international society, including Indo-Pacific region.

Both sides confirmed that they will advance coordination toward an early realization of a Ministerial meeting of the Economic “2+2”
