Congratulatory Message from Foreign Minister HAYASHI to Ambassador Emanuel
On December 18, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, sent a congratulatory message to the Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America, as follows.
Dear Ambassador Emanuel,
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on your confirmation as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
You have held key positions in the White House and Congress, served as mayor in Chicago, and earned the deep trust of President Biden. Now it is my pleasure to welcome you as Ambassador to Japan, and I am confident that you will play a great role in Japan.
Japan and the United States have been steadfast allies. We share universal values, including freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the Japan-U.S. Alliance is the cornerstone of peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
As you remarked at the Senate confirmation hearing, what we are going to build in our partnership at the region does matter, for the future of Japan, the U.S and the Indo-Pacific region.
Awaiting your arrival, I look forward to working and cooperating closely with you to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
Please accept my best wishes as you assume your new post.
Sincerely,
/s/
HAYASHI Yoshimasa
Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan
The Honorable Rahm Emanuel
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America
