Meeting between Senior Deputy Minister Suzuki and U.S. Under Secretary of State Fernandez

On December 13, commencing at 11 a.m. (for approximately 2 hours), Senior Deputy Minister SUZUKI Hiroshi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Under Secretary of state for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, Jose W. Fernandez while visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Senior Deputy Minister Suzuki welcomed the visit of Under Secretary Fernandez to Japan. Senior Deputy Minister Suzuki also stated that he hopes to accelerate cooperation on the follow-up of the development on Japan-U.S Competitiveness and Resilience (CoRe) Partnership launched at the Japan-U.S. Summit in April 2021, with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness and resilience of both countries as well as deepening Japan-U.S. cooperation in addressing various challenges facing the international community and the Indo-Pacific region. In response, Under Secretary Fernandez confirmed the importance of deepening discussions on these cooperations and stated that he intends to further strengthen bilateral economic relations.
- Both sides had candid discussion on the international order in the Indo-Pacific region, including TPP, and bilateral collaboration on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework proposed by the U.S.
- Both sides also discussed Japan-U.S. cooperation on addressing global challenges facing the international community and the Indo-Pacific region.
