Visit to Japan by His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President-elect of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly

 H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President-elect of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives), will visit Japan on the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Thursday, August 26 to Saturday, August 28, 2021.

  1. During his stay in Japan, the President-elect is scheduled to make a courtesy call on Mr. SUGA Yoshihide, Prime Minister of Japan, and have a meeting with Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
  2. It is expected that this visit to Japan by the President-elect will promote the various efforts for international contribution that Japan is pursuing at the United Nations, and strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the United Nations.
[Reference] The President-elect H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid is from the Republic of Maldives and has served as Member of Parliament, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Speaker of the People's Majlis, and since 2018 Minister of Foreign Affairs (for the second time). H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid was elected as the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on June 7 this year at the UN General Assembly. His term as President of the UN General Assembly will run from September 2021 until September 2022.
