The Situation in the Republic of Mali
(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)
May 27, 2021
- Japan is concerned by the destabilization of the political situation in Mali following the detention of the interim President, the interim Prime Minister as well as other members of the interim Government of Mali by a group of Malian army soldiers on May 24.
- Japan strongly condemns such actions, and calls for the immediate, safe and unconditional release of all those detained and the prompt resumption of the transition which had been in process since the formation of the interim Government last year, echoing the joint statement of the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the United Nations, among others.
