Iran’s announcement on the Nuclear Activities
(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

                April 16, 2021

                        - On Tuesday, April 13 (local time), Iran informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that it would start producing enriched uranium up to 60%.
- Japan supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which contributes to the international non-proliferation regime and thereby to the stability of the Middle East. Japan is strongly concerned that Iran will start producing enriched uranium up to 60%, which is close to weapons-grade highly enriched uranium, while the positive dialogue on the Iran’s nuclear issue is ongoing among relevant countries.
- Japan strongly urges Iran to comply with the JCPOA, to refrain from provocative measures that undermine the agreement and to act in a constructive manner aiming to resolve the issue through the dialogue.
- Japan will continue its diplomatic efforts toward easing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East region in coordination with relevant countries and international organizations including the IAEA.
