Dispatch of the Election Observer Mission to the Myanmar General Election

1. The Government of Japan decided to dispatch an election observer mission headed by Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, for the general election to be held in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on November 8. The decision was conveyed to H.E. Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor and Union Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar by Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan on August 24 during his visit to Myanmar.

2. The Government of Japan will support a free and fair election through the dispatch of the election observer mission as well as the provision of the special ink to prevent double voting. The successful election is expected to further promote and establish the democratization of Myanmar. The Government of Japan will continue to strongly support the promotion of the democratization of Myanmar.
