Re-entry of foreign nationals who possess the status of residence
(Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru)
1. On July 29, Japanese embassies, consulates-general and consular offices (hereinafter refer to as“Japanese overseas establishments”) in the relevant country/region have started procedures for the re-entry of foreign nationals who have left Japan with re-entry permit before the country/region where such foreign nationals are currently staying was designated as an area subject to denial of permission to enter into Japan.
2. Considering various factors such as number and rate of recent COVID-19 positive cases detected at the airport quarantine, the Government of Japan has decided that from the perspective of preventing the spread of COVID-19, the foreign nationals with re-entry permit who have stayed in Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines or Peru within last 14 days prior to landing in Japan, will be required to present a Letter of Confirmation of Submitting Required Documentation for Re-entry into Japan and a certificate of negative test result conducted within 72 hours before their departure to Japan upon re-entering Japan from August 7 2020. This measure will also be applied to the holders of the status of “Permanent Resident,” “Long Term Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Japanese National,” and “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident” (and the spouse or child of Japanese nationals and permanent residents who do not possess these statuses of residence). Diplomats and foreign government officials will be exempted from this measure.
(Note) Regarding all other countries/regions other than these four countires mentioned above, holders of re-entry permit and the status of “Permanent Resident,” “Long Term Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Japanese National,” and “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident” (and the spouse or child of Japanese nationals and permanent residents who do not possess these statuses of residence), who previously could re-enter Japan as being deemed to have special exceptional circumstances will be required to present a Letter of Confirmation of Submitting Required Documentation for Re-entry into Japan and a certificate of negative test result conducted within 72 hours before their departure to Japan, re-entering into Japan after 1st September.
