On June 9, commencing at around 5:15 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a video teleconference talk with the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade of the United Kingdom. The overview is as follows.

1. The two Ministers agreed to launch negotiations today to establish the future economic partnership between Japan and the UK, and also confirmed that they would work together to quickly establish it, taking also into account the need to ensure the business continuity between Japan and the UK.

2. Secretary Truss reiterated the UK’s interest in TPP 11 (CPTPP), and Minister Motegi stated that Japan welcomed the UK’s interest and would continue to provide necessary support.

3. In addition, the two Ministers exchanged their views on such issues as cooperation at the WTO, and they confirmed that they would continue to cooperate closely.
