Japan-Estonia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On May 7, commencing at around 2:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Urmas Reinsalu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. The overview is as follows.

1. In light of the current global spread of the COVID-19, the two Ministers exchanged views on the situation and measures to prevent the spread of infections in their respective countries. In this context, Minister Motegi informed Minister Reinsale of the provision of Avigan tablets that the Estonia side requested. In response, Minister Reinsalu expressed his appreciation for this provision. Both Ministers shared the view to coordinate closely to prevent the spread of infections including utilizing cutting-edge digital technology.

2. Minister Reinsalu explained the measures being implemented by Estonia, which holds this month’s United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Presidency, and stated that Estonia would like to work with Japan, which attaches great importance to Security Council reform. In response, Minister Motegi expressed his appreciation for the activities of Estonia, as the UNSC Presidency, and expressed Japan’s intention to continue to work closely together with Estonia.
