Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
1. On September 16th, commencing ataround 9:05 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk with the Honorable Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States. This telephone talk was requested by Secretary Pompeo to congratulate Minister Motegi following his appointment as Foreign Minister.
2. At the outset, Mr. Pompeo expressed his congratulations for Minister Motegi's appointment as Foreign Minister, and the two ministers confirmed that they would work closely to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to address various issues in the region and the international community.
3. The two ministers shared the view that they wouldhold a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly.
