The Ninth Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue

- On September 4 and 5, the Ninth Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue was held in Tokyo.
- From the Japanese side, Mr. Takeshi Akahori, Deputy Assistant Minister, Foreign Policy Bureau, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the National Security Secretariat, the National Ocean Policy Secretariat, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of Defense and the Japan Coast Guard attended the dialogue. From the Singaporean side, Ambassador Mary Seet-Cheng, Senior Specialist Adviser, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Defence and the Maritime and Port Authority participated.
- Reaffirming the importance of the rule of law at sea, a wide variety of topics including maritime security issues in major sea lanes, anti-piracy measures in Southeast Asia as well as off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden, capacity building assistance and cooperation among maritime law enforcement agencies as well as defense authorities, cooperation within the multilateral frameworks and maritime cybersecurity were discussed at the dialogue. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the area of maritime domain awareness (MDA).
- On 4, the delegation also paid a visit to the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and the Tokyo Wan Vessel Traffic Service Centre as well as the Japan Coast Guard Museum in Yokohama.
