On October 6, commencing at around midday for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with Mrs. Finda Koroma, Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, who visited Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. In opening statements, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada sincerely welcomed Vice President Koroma’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting, and stated that Japan highly evaluates the active efforts of ECOWAS to achieve stability in the West African region, and noting that Japan places importance on further strengthening relations with ECOWAS.

2. In response, Vice President Koroma expressed her appreciation for Japan’s support for the activities of ECOWAS, and stated that ECOWAS seeks to further strengthen cooperation with Japan in such areas as health, human resources development and science and technology. She also promised cooperation towards TICAD 7 next year.
