Meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Djibouti

LOn October 6, Mr. Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Mohamed Ali Hassan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Djibouti, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. In opening statements, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada welcomed Secretary General Ali Hassan’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and stated that Japan seeks to further strengthen the partnership with Djibouti that has developed over the course of 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
2. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada expressed appreciation for assistance provided by Djibouti to the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) of Japan in counter-piracy operations.
3. Secretary General Ali Hassan noted that the recent visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti had further strengthened bilateral relations. He also expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance to the African countries, including Djibouti, and promised cooperation towards TICAD 7 next year.
4. In addition, an exchange of views was held regarding cooperation in the international arena such as the North Korea situation including the abductions issue, as well as the Security Council reform.
