On October 6, commencing at 9:05 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Noureddine Ayadi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Algeria, who was in visit in Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows,

1. In opening statements, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada sincerely welcomed Secretary General Ayadi’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and stated that Japan would like to further develop bilateral relations with Algeria.

2. Secretary General Ayadi noted that Algeria places importance on cooperation with Japan in general, and showed his hope, among other things, for strengthening its economic relation with Japan in particular. He also promised cooperation towards TICAD7 next year.

3. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada stated that Japan will work to further deepen the bilateral economic relationship, referring to such matters as the early conclusion of an agreement on promotion and protection of investment and the near term launch of a framework of joint public-private economic exchange.

4. In addition, an exchange of views was held regarding cooperation in the international arena such as the North Korea situation including the abductions issue, as well as Security Council reform.
