,P>On October 7, commencing at 9:35 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Hon. Dr. Unity Dow, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana, who was visiting Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kono wholeheartedly welcomed Minister Dow’s participation in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and stated that he would like to cooperate toward deepening relations between Japan and Botswana going forward.

2. Following that, Minister Kono expressed his appreciation for Botswana’s efforts to improve investment environment and stated that Japanese companies are expanding their operations in the field of energy etc, that Akita University has been cooperating with the University of Botswana and the Botswana International University of Science & Technology, respectively, and that measures for human resources development are being undertaken through the ABE Initiative and other efforts. In response, Minister Dow expressed her hope not only for exchanges between the governments of Japan and Botswana but also for collaboration between companies and exchanges between students of the two countries.

3. The two Ministers also exchanged views toward the spread on Japanese standard for the terrestrial broadcasting (ISDB-T, Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting – Terrestrial).

4. The two Ministers also exchanged their views on cooperation in the international arena, including Security Council reform.
