Signing of the Treaty between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons
1. Ms. ABE Toshiko, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. LE Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, signed the "Treaty between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on the Transfer of the Sentenced Persons" (English (PDF) / Japanese (PDF)
), and the exchange of the signed text of the Treaty was witnessed by Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minster of Japan and H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in Tokyo on July 1.
2. This Treaty sets out procedures between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for transferring persons on whom sentences of imprisonment have been imposed by a court of the other country back to their own country, provided certain conditions are met.
3. By providing the opportunity for Japanese sentenced persons in Viet Nam and Vietnamese sentenced persons in Japan to serve their sentences in their home countries, the conclusion of this Treaty will contribute to facilitating the reformation, rehabilitation and social reintegration of these sentenced persons, and is expected to contribute to advancing bilateral cooperation in the field of criminal law.
4. The Treaty will be submitted to the Diet for approval.
