The Japan- United States Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON) Joint Event
1. On June 6, 2019, the Japan-U.S. Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON), Anniversaries, Inc., and Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce (DRC) jointly convened an event about AI and possible cooperation between Japan and the U.S. in Dallas, Texas.
2. At the opening, Mr. James Schmeltekopf, Innovation Task Force Chair of DRC, gave welcome remarks. Then, Mr. Fumiaki Kubo, Japan CULCON vice Chair and Professor, Tokyo University, explained the importance of Japan-U.S. relationship and activities of CULCON. Mr. Ren Ito, the founding representative of Anniversaries, Inc. introduced how it was established and future events of the NPO.
3. At the panel discussion about how Japan and the U.S. private companies can work together to advance technology with AI, Dr. Motohiro Tsuchiya, Professor, Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University, gave a presentation about AI, cyber security and its social impacts. The audience responded with various questions and actively exchanged opinions on the topic.
Anniversaries, Inc. is a Washington DC-based nonprofit corporation founded in 2018 following the Joint Statement of CULCON to provide a platform for young opinion leaders to meet and collaborate. The organization was established to stimulate new policy debate and act as a bridge towards deeper engagement between the United States and Japan.
