On May 28, commencing at 1:00 p.m. for approximately 60 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, hosted a luncheon meeting with H.E. Dr. Nabil Abu-Rudeine, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information of the Palestinian Authority on the occasion of his visit to Japan. The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kono welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Rudeine’s visit to Japan and stated that Japan continues to support a “two-state solution” where the state of Israel and a future state of Palestine live side by side in peace. Minister Kono also expressed Japan’s willingness to make its utmost efforts toward achieving stability in the region including Palestine as well as to support Palestine which is in a difficult situation as much as possible.

2. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Rudeine stated that Japan is an important friend of Palestine and sincerely appreciates the contributions made by Japan thus far. He also expressed the Palestinian Authority’s positions on various issues regarding Palestine and the region.

3. Minister Kono expressed that Japan will continue to support Palestine by further promoting its own unique efforts such as the “Corridor for Peace and Prosperity” initiative and “Conference on cooperation among East Asian countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).”
