The 14th Japan- U.S. Joint High-Level Committee (JHLC) Meeting under the Agreement between Japan and the U.S. on Cooperation in Research and Development in Science and Technology


1. On May 2nd, 2019 in Washington, D.C., the 14th Japan-U.S. Joint High-Level Committee (JHLC) Meeting underthe Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America on Cooperation in Research and Development in Science and Technology was held.
2. The Japanese delegation was co-chaired by Mr. Takuya Hirai, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy and Mr. Masahiko Shibayama, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the U.S. delegation was co-chaired by Dr. Kelvin Droegemeier, Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Mr. Michael Kratsios, Deputy Assistant to the President for Technology Policy, with the participation of relevant ministries and institutions of both countries.
3. In this meeting discussions were made on national policies on science, technology and innovation as well as each country’s policy making, bilateral cooperation and other matters in the fields including artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology.
