Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
On September 21, commencing at around 8:15 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.
1. The two foreign ministers closely aligned their future policy concerning the issue of North Korea, taking into account the Inter-Korean Summit Meeting which was held on September 18 and 19, confirmed their shared goal of achieving the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, and confirmed that Japan and the United States, as well as Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea will continue to closely coordinate their policies, including through the Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting that will be held during the United Nations General Assembly.
2. In addition, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on the situation in Iran.
