Emergency Assistance to Myanmar in Response to the Flood Disaster

1. On Monday, August 6, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (water storage tanks, tents) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, in response to the request from its government following serious damage caused by the floods disaster in the country.

2. Considering the friendly relationship between Japan and the Repulic of the Union of Myanmar, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the disaster.

Since the end of July, heavy rain has caused floods disaster in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. According to the Myanmar Government, at least 12 people have been killed, and approximately 150,000 people have been affected as of August 2.
