Foreign Minister Kono to Visit Hong Kong

1. From March 24 to 25, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to visit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).
2. On March 25, Minister Kono is scheduled to meet with Ms. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, during which Minister Kono and Chief Executive Lam are expected to affirm the importance of Japan-Hong Kong relations, and exchange views on further strengthening relations, including in the areas of economy and tourism.
3. This will be the first visit by a Japanese foreign minister to Hong Kong since the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997, excluding the occasions for attending international for a and transit visits.
