1. Ministerial Meeting in support of Lebanon’s Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces(the Rome II Conference) hosted by the government of Italy was held in Rome on 15 March 2018. As a representative of Japan, Mr. Manabu HORII, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan attended this conference and made a speech.
Prime Minister of Italy Paolo Gentiloni and Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri were present at the conference with the representatives from 40 countries and international organizations.

2. In speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Mr. HORII explained three approaches Japan has been taking toward the stabilization in Lebanon, which are (1) Providing training programs to the Internal Security Forces (ISF) on countering international terrorism with Lebanon, (2) Supporting Lebanon’s efforts on demining and unexploded ordnance disposal, (3) Implementing capacity building programs to improve the border control capacity of Lebanese security authorities. He also stated that Japan provided more than 150 million US dollars in humanitarian assistance to Lebanon since 2012 and expressed Japan’s commitment to contribute to the stabilization in Lebanon.
