Foreign Minister Kono to Visit China
1. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to visit Beijing, the People's Republic of China, from the afternoon of January 27 to the evening of January 28, if circumstances permit.
2. Japan and China share the view that they will pursue to improve the relationship on all fronts during this year’s 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China, following on the 45th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China last year. Under these circumstances, Minister Kono is scheduled to hold a Japan-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, on January 28, and exchange views on matters such as the way forward for the Japan-China relationship this year, and pressing issues including on North Korea.
3. Japan’s Foreign Minister will visit China for the first time in approximately one year and nine months since April 2016.
