Japan’s Assumption to the Security Council Presidency

1. Japan will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during December.

2. On December 15th, Japan will host a Ministerial Meeting on “Non-Proliferation/DPRK”. Other scheduled meetings will be an open debate on “Addressing Complex Contemporary Challenges to International Peace and Security”, briefings on Small Arms, and Peacekeeping Operations. South Sudan, Myanmar, and Syria are also included in this month’s agenda.

3. December is the last month for Japan’s 11th term as a non-permanent member of the Council. Japan will continue to contribute so that the Council can play a proactive role in the maintenance of international peace and security.
