Responses by the Government of Spain to Catalonia
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Norio Maruyama)
October 30, 2017
1. On October 27 (local time), the Government of Spain implemented measures on Catalonia, including the dissolution of the Regional Parliament of Catalonia and the removal of the president of the autonomous community of Catalonia and other officials, based on the Spanish Constitution.
2. Since there are a number of Japanese companies and residents in Catalonia as well as many Japanese tourists, Japan has, therefore, continued to closely follow the political stability.
3. The Government of Japan respects the recent measures taken by the Government of Spain and strongly hopes that the situation will be peacefully settled based on Spanish law including the Spanish Constitution.
