Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Irma” disaster in Antigua and Barbuda
1. Today, September 16, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (Sleeping Pads, Portable Jerry Cans etc.) to Antigua and Barbuda, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of Antigua and Barbuda following serious damage from Hurricane “Irma” in the country.
2. Antigua and Barbuda is suffering from disaster caused by the passage of Hurricane “Irma” from September 5 to 6. According to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, as of September 16, approximately 1,400 people out of about 1,800 residents in Barbuda are taking refuge from the hurricane disaster.
3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Antigua and Barbuda to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the disaster as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and Antigua and Barbuda.
