Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Irma” disaster in the Republic of Cuba
1. On Thursday, September 14, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (water purifiers, portable jerry cans, etc.) to the Republic of Cuba, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Republic of Cuba following serious damage from Hurricane “Irma” in the country.
2. The Republic of Cuba is suffering from disaster caused by the passage of Hurricane “Irma” from September 8 to 10. According to the report of the United Nations Office of the Resident Coordinator in Cuba, as of September 11, approximately 2,000,000 people are taking refuge from the hurricane disaster.
3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to the Republic of Cuba to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the disaster as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and the Republic of Cuba.
