Emergency Assistance to Nepal in response to the Damages caused by the Heavy Rainfall
1. Today, August 20, upon the request of the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (blankets,plastic sheets etc.) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Nepal in response to the damages incurred from the floods caused by the heavy rainfall since August 11 around Southern areas of the country.
2. Upon the request of the Government of Nepal, and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Nepal, Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Nepal to meet its humanitarian needs.

Since August 11, the floods and landslides caused by the heavy rainfall around the Southern areas of the country resulted in a large number of loss of lives and physical damage. According to the Government of Nepal, as of August 18, 135 people died, 41 people injured, and 30 people have been missing.
