The Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Return of Hong Kong to China
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Norio Maruyama)
1. We congratulate Hong Kong as it celebrates its 20th anniversary of the return to the People’s Republic of China on July 1. The Government of Japan hopes that Hong Kong will continue to maintain its existing free and open system under the “One Country Two System” and that it will strongly develop democratically.
2. At the same time, we look forward to establishing a close and cooperative relationship with the newly inaugurated Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Ms. Carrie Lam, and wish that our exchanges between Japan and Hong Kong will be further enhanced.
(Note)
