Dispatch of a Special Envoy of the Prime Minister for the Inauguration Ceremony of the President of Haiti
1. On February 3, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, as a Special Envoy of Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister, to the inauguration ceremony for H. E. Mr. Jovenel Moïse, President of the Republic of Haiti, which is scheduled to be held in Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince on February 7.
2. Japan and Haiti have had traditionally friendly relations since they established diplomatic relations in 1956. The Government of Japan decided to dispatch a Special Envoy of the Prime Minister in the interests of further developing this bilateral relationship in the future.

A presidential election (first round of voting) took place in Haiti on November 20, 2016, and Mr. Jovenel Moïse secured a majority and was elected. President Moïse’s presidential term will run from February 7, 2017 until February 6, 2022.
