Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida Meets Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel Ahmad Al-Jubeir

1. On September 2, from around 11:00 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Adel Ahmad Al-Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

2. In his opening remarks, Foreign Minister Kishida stated that, Japan will play its role for stability and prosperity in the Middle East as the situation in the region remains in disorder, and in order to achieve its purpose, he will to cooperate closely with Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir. In response, Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir welcomed Japan’s engagement in the issues in the region. The two foreign ministers went on to exchange views on the situation in the Middle East.

3. Foreign Minister Kishida expressed the willingness to have the foreign policy authorities of both counties work in coordination to realize Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir agreed to this and stated that he hopes Japan to be a partner for Vision 2030.

4. The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the situation in East Asia such as North Korea’s human rights and humanitarian issues including the abductions, a nuclear test, and a series of missile launches by North Korea, and maritime order in the region based on the principle of the rule of law.
