Resuming of Yemen Peace Talks in Kuwait
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura)

1. Japan welcomes the resumption of the UN-facilitated Yemen peace talks on July 17th (16th JST). Japan highly appreciates the mediation efforts made by Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen.

2. Japan strongly hopes that all parties will engage in the talks in good faith with full commitment to the cessation of hostilities and the securing of access for humanitarian assistance, and achieve the agreement for the advancement of peaceful political process towards the stability of Yemen.

3. Japan, in coordination with the international community, will continue to support the mediation efforts by Mr. Ismail and the efforts towards peace by the parties concerned.

4. Japan will continue to actively work on humanitarian assistance to deal with the serious humanitarian situation in Yemen. Japan hopes the peace will be achieved in Yemen and the conditions conducive to the cooperation towards the reconstruction of it will be developed.
