Foreign Minisiter Kishida Receives a Courtesy Call by the Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag of Germany


On March 22, commencing at 4:05 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Volker Kauder, Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Kishida welcomed the sixth visit by Chairman Kauder to Japan, and congratulated him on his receipt of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in the 2015 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. Chairman Kauder expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to meet with Foreign Minister Kishida again.
2. Foreign Minister Kishida and Chairman Kauder confirmed the importance of Japan and Germany continuing to cooperate closely as G7 Chair countries of this year and last year, respectively.
3. Foreign Minister Kishida expressed respect for and solidarity with Germany’s efforts to resolve the refugee crisis, and explained Japan’s assistance for refugees from Syria and its nearby countries, as well as internally displaced people. Chairman Kauder voiced gratitude for Japan’s assistance, and Foreign Minister Kishida and Chairman Kauder confirmed that it is vital to solve the root causes of the refugee crisis.
4. Foreign Minister Kishida and Chairman Kauder exchanged opinions on regional situations in Ukraine and other areas.
