Seminar on Capacity Building in Maritime Security

  1. On December 14th to 16th in Tokyo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the Seminar on Capacity Building in Maritime Security.
  2. This seminar will be held as a follow-up to the keynote address delivered by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Shangri-La Dialogue held in Singapore in May of last year, and continues on from the Seminar on Capacity Building in Maritime Security and Disaster Relief that was held in September of last year.
  3. In this seminar, Japan will explain its efforts under the policy of “Proactive Contribution to Peace,” including Legislation for Peace and Security, to ASEAN countries to promote their understanding, and in addition will exchange opinions with the participants from each country on Japan’s support for ASEAN countries in the field of maritime security. It is hoped that this seminar will promote further concrete and steady cooperation on security and defense between Japan and ASEAN countries.
  4. The attendees at this seminar are expected to be persons responsible for policy from the ministries of foreign affairs and the ministries of defense of each of the ASEAN countries. From Japan, in addition to from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the National Security Secretariat; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and the Ministry of Defense will attend.
