Emergency Assistance to the Commonwealth of Dominica in Response to the Floods Disaster

1. On Tuesday, September 1, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (Electric Generator, Water Purifier etc.) to the Commonwealth of Dominica, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica following serious damage from the floods and related disasters in the country.

2. The Commonwealth of Dominica suffers from floods around its territory caused by the passage of Tropical Strom “ERIKA” on August 27. According to the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, as of August 31, 20 people were dead, approximately 30 people missing, and 574 people took refuge from floods.

3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
