Emergency Assistance to Myanmar in Response to the Flood Disaster
1. On Tuesday, August 4, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth approximately 18 million yen (blankets, etc.) to Myanmar through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar following serious damage from the floods in that country.
2. Myanmar suffers from floods caused by heavy rain since July 16, and according to the Myanmar Government, as of August 2, 46 people were dead , and 220,000 people were affected.
3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Myanmar in response to the request from the Myanmar Government, from the humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and Myanmar over many years.
