Emergency Assistance to the Federated States of Micronesia in Response to the Typhoon Disaster
1. On April 7, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods in equivalent to 11 million yen (Water Purifier, Portable Jerry Can) to the Federated States of Micronesia through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia following serious damage caused by the Typhoon Maysak.
2. In the Federated States of Micronesia, the Typhoon Maysak was generated in the end of March, and gave rise to enormous damage. In Chuuk and Yap States, schools, public utilities, private residences and fishing vessels were damaged and many residents were forced to evacuate. As of April 6, it was reported that five people were dead in Chuuk State. It is reported that the number of those affected will go up as the details of the disaster become clear.
3. The Government of Japan, in response to a request made by the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, has decided to extend this emergency assistance, from the humanitarian viewpoint and taking into account of the friendly relations between Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia.
