Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kazuyuki Nakane to Visit Cambodia and Laos

1. Mr. Kazuyuki Nakane, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to visit the Kingdom of Cambodia (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap) and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Vientiane) from January 12 to 17.

2. This year is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity with Cambodia, the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Lao PDR, and a milestone year in building the ASEAN Community. This visit is expected to further strengthen Japan’s relationships with both Cambodia and the Lao PDR.

3. During his visit to Cambodia, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakane is scheduled to hold meetings with ministerss of the Government of Cambodia, including Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister, and H.E. Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and attend the closing girder ceremony for Neak Loeung Bridge, for which the Government of Japan has extended grant aid (aid of up to 11.94 billion yen).

4. In the Lao PDR, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakane is scheduled to hold meetings with ministers of the Government of the Lao PDR, including H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, meet with students from National University of Laos, and attend a dinner to commemorate the opening of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and the Lao PDR.
