Japan.–U.S. Energy Strategic Dialogue
1. On December 16, Japan and the United States held an Energy Strategic Dialogue in Washington DC, the United States of America.
2. The Japanese side was led by Mr. Tatsuo Sato, Deputy Director-General for Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Takayuki Sumita, Director General for Natural Resources and Fuel Department, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as well as a representative from MOD. The U.S. participants were led by Mr. Amos J Hochstein, the Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs, and included participants from the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources and Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense.
3. In the meeting, the two delegations held fruitful discussions on topics including global energy and transit issues, Japan-U.S. energy cooperation, and Asia’s gas market.
4. The schedule of the next meeting will be determined through diplomatic channels.
