Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan on Decision to Award the Nobel Peace Prize to Ms. Malala Yousafzai and Mr. Kailash Satyarthi

  1. 1. The Government of Japan heartily congratulates Ms. Malala Yousafzai and Mr. Kailash Satyarthi on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

    2. Ms. Malala Yousafzai has been asking for the right of education for girls and women without yielding to the terrorism. I pay respect to the courageous act of Ms. Malala Yousafzai.

    3. Mr. Satyarthi has been working in various activities, consistently by peaceful means, to abolish child labor, and continuously appealing importance of education for everyone.

    4. Education is the foundation to foster understanding of others and different cultures, and to support peace. Japan has been attaching importance to the education as an essential field to promote “Human Security” and hopes that both Ms. Malala Yousafzai and Mr. Kailash Satyarthi to flourish in the future.
