Policy Dialogue on Climate Change in SIDS (Small Island Developing States)
1. From July 2 to 4, the “Policy Dialogue on Climate Change in SIDS” will be held in Tokyo. The climate change negotiators and other officials of 22 SIDS countries and two organizations (see reference) are scheduled to participate in the Dialogue.
2. In this Dialogue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of the Environment will explain Japan’s policies on climate change and assistance to the participants from SIDS countries. An exchange of views on climate change is also scheduled to be held, toward the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 20).
3. Moreover, on this occasion the participants from SIDS countries are scheduled to visit smart grid and tsunami-related facilities which utilize Japan’s latest environmental technologies and disaster reduction technologies.
